Does anyone know what the deal with the 5oz Quarters is for this coming year?
Is the Mint still doing the P version of the coins or will it just be all Bullion from now on?
I know some people arent big fans of the coin, and I will admit some of the coins leave something to be desired, but I really enjoy several of the new quarter designs and love being able to see them on a larger scale.
Just cant seem to find any update on possible release dates if at all

I love them as well, but also haven't been able to find any information about 2012 release dates. I haven't seen anything about stopping the program, though, so I have faith...

I too have been curious about the 2012 release dates, but after searching the mint's website and searching the internet, I was unable to find any information. I may be wrong, but I believe the 2011 release date was sometime in October.

I know some of the 2011s did come out really late last year, just seemed like 1 or them or at least a release date would have been posted by now.
I did see something a few months back about canceling the P series, which I think would be a shame, but really havent seen anything else about them sense.
How hard would it be for the mint to at least put the expected season for the release date like just have them listed with Fall 2012 so at least we have some idea

Maybe there's no update from the Mint because no final decision regarding the future of the series has been made.
The authorizing legislation does not mandate that the 5 oz coins be made every year, for every quarter. It states "The Secretary shall strike and make available for sale such number of bullion coins as the Secretary determines to be appropriate..." If the Secretary deems that none are appropriate, then none need to be minted.
I hope they continue the series, but nothing is for certain since the sales of the coins have been less than spectacular.

commens very good point. I was under the impression that at least the bullion versions of the pucks were mandated and it was up to the mint whether or not they wanted to do the proof version. But if neither are mandated than that would make a lot more sense about the lack of updates.
The sales certainly havent been the greatest although I think Gettysburg and 1 other is on the verge of selling out and the 2010 ones sold out. Their advertising of the option has been pretty non existent as well. I missed out on getting the 2010s but jumped on the 2011s.
At the very least I hope they keep the proof series going and if anything scrap the bullion one. I would guess that a decent number of people arent even aware of the fact that there are two different versions of each one.
Monks I am envious of your 2010 set. I LOVE the 2010 ones and missed out on them and have been trying to locate a p set of them at a reasonable price

Yeah, I have all 10 as well. It was exciting to get the first couple. Had the whole 2011 ASE 25th Anniversary Set feel to the releases. But then interest dropped way off when people started realizing how crazy expensive the UNC versions were. Of course, the mint released the first two when Ag was in the mid-40's (remember that?) and $279 for 5 ounces was "only" a 60-dollar premium. Ug. I really would like to see them do at least the 2012s because I really appreciate most of those designs. They would look SWEET giant-sized. Guess we'll find out in due time. Intererstingly it's almost a year to the day (April 28th, 2011) that the US Mint released Hot Springs 5-oz UNC. I do recall the anticipation of 12 Eastern that day.

Celtic with each passing day and not even so much as a planned release date announced I fear the p set may have seen its last days or the set entirely.
They certainly didnt do themselves any favors with the high premiums on each coin over melt, but I agree the designs on the majority of them do look fantastic super sized. The Yosemite and Grand Canyon coins are absolutely amazing. The only one I really havent liked or was disappointed with so far is the hot springs.
I wonder if the mint is waiting so see more what happens with silver before releasing them with how much the prices have changed, then again they may just be waiting to sell out the 2011s and wipe their hands clean of the coin. I hope they continue it I was really looking forward to some of the sites that were chosen for future coins

I suspect the bullion 2011s were minted to the max of 126,700 for each of the five designs, and rather than scrap the existing inventory because of a date change, they will probably continue to be sold to the APs until the supply is exhausted. They are after all, "bullion" pieces, the date and design is largely irrelevant. Since it's nearly May with no word/announcement of the 2012 dated bullion, it's anybody's guess whether these will be offered this year. The Mint would be more likely to offer the collector versions, but if there isn't going to be bullion 2012s, they could easily justify not minting the P-version either. This situation is analogous to the 40% Bicentennial proof set, they were on sale at the Mint 10 years after the fact, nobody wanted these coins.
