Keep in mind a clash makes marks on the ED STATES OF AM area. The bust edge is clashing that area. So a heaving plisihing happens in this area. It removes the depth of these devices when they are over polished. They are the strongest on the 1980's Zincolns. The dept of the hubbing is less than the three step process for the hubbing of the dies prior to the single hubbing they do now. They must have changes something in the process as they are not as noticable as during the late 1980's cents. So it is not just die wear, but over polishing that shortens the devices on the OP coin. On the obverse the ONE Cent clashes and a strong polshing shows on the obverse. Most of the time it's not pretty, but it makes the earlier die states look extra special without all these polishings.
