I was just wondering. Has anyone ever found anything of value in one of those bags that you see advertised all the time?

Hi, Peter, Very rarely there are 'unsearched' bags of wheat cents, I think you'll find 99% of them have been searched, unless you find some at an auction or estate sale.

Quote:that isn't necessarily true. This was just a couple weeks ago: http://www.coincommunity.com/forum/...IC_ID=116499 Yes it is possible. However, I sometimes wonder if all such incidents are true. Very possible but again, as has been mentioned many, many times now: If they are UNSEARCHED WHEAT CENTS, how do you know they are all wheat cents unless you did search. A person would have to look at every coin to make sure they are all Wheat Cents now wouldn't they? THINK. For example if I said I have 10 Nickels in my pocket, all are in the 60's, but I never looked at them, how would I know? Unsearched rolls, bags, boxes, etc. are the standard nominclature on ebay.

If they are from ebay, they will absolutely be searched and in many cases doctored to make them look better. I bought a role once out of curiosity and now have plenty of teaching coins for what to look for in a doctored coin. I am not being sarcastic, my son and his friends look at them from time to time. My favorite one is so whizzed it is bright shiney red - however we can barely read the date!

id agree. its someone who searched their coins to make sure no very valuable coins are there. than they sell the pile as a lot knowing they are mostly common dates with a few S mint coins sprinkled in as extra so as not to get poor ratings

Do a forum search, this has been discussed MANY times over. The bottomline, there is no such thing, almost ALL wheats have been picked though at one time or another.....usually multiple times.

"looked at" and "searched" are not necessarily the same thing.

I assume that all these ebay unsearched bags have been "unsearched for anything but key dates" lol, but I was thrown for a loop yesterday when I saw unsearched bags being sold in an ad on page 13 in Coin Prices Magazine July 2012 issue, by SCI (Southern Coin Investments. Would a reputable magazine allow this? I've searched a few unsearched bags, the thrill is great but the disappointment is greater!
