Hello, I just stumbled upon this banknote this morning. I was so excited that I screamed, but then upon closer inspection, there is what seems to be a hard crease in the middle, and it got me thinking, could two notes have been cut in half and then stuck back together somehow ? I cannot see any trace of adhesive tape. If it is a fake, the person who did this was meticulous because to the naked eye everything is consistent. I will have to get a hold of a magnifying glass and inspect that crease and report back here with the results. In the meantime, what if this is genuine, what kind of premium could it bring ?

While you are looking, check the pattern of the print that looks almost like cloth. It appears that it changes from left to right to a completely different pattern which at the center where the crease is the pattern should line up perfectly and uninterrupted and not be off a little. I don't know but it looks like a great mismatch number to me? Those two numbers sure are a distance from each other. You would think that the sequence would be closer?

What a nice find. You just hit the jackpot, 4 mismatched didgits. The grade is not too bad but if you don't like the grade I'll take it from you.

That's an incredible mismatched number difference, 5 number's! ---Your right to want to investigate that fold and would be nice if we had a better and closer picture to magnify so we could all see. ---From your picture it looks real but, if it's a fake that is someone that has skills and allot of time that did it.

I think if it were a fake it would be on ebay and not in circulation. Get it graded and certified I say.

Getting it slabbed really doesn't add value to error notes. But that is up to you.

Yes,get it certified to determine if it's a fake or not. I don't see how THESE mismatched numbers can be. (Maybe someone was having fun with the printing/numbering machine at the mint?)

IMO! I agree getting it certified would eliminate the doubts of it being a fake. ---I believe a seller could us that to his advantage if put for sale and could demand a greater price, surely the buyer would give less if not. ---I would say not really, if it were just one or two numbers or even three maybe, but this is 5 off. ---Can't be to many! --Baanos--Could you give us a closer centre shot with both numbers in view?
Thanks / Merci pour ton temps.

The serial numbers are imprinted with special inks. Any modification, or overprinting can be identifyed with a camera that has infrared. My Sony Cybershot has "night vision" and I use it on notes with questionable ink smears. The non-currency ink shows up completely differently than the ink used for the serial numbers.

OK!--ikandiggit-- But were talking about this one, I don't get your post. Technology is great but a close-up picture would do the trick, if spliced it would show in the finer details of the note.

ikandiggit, not sure what you are getting at with your post.
Baanos..If you think it could have been spliced together, then a good close up of that area will help us out here make a decision that as to what is really going on with your bill.

Sorry, I received an email from someone asking me about my mismatched serial numbers and if it was possible for someone to erase the number and print on new numbers. Mistakenly, I thought it was related to this thread.
Sorry for the confusion.

Sinced seeing that it is only a picture of a 10 dollar bill and, now a days anything can be altered, I'm going to say that this is looking to me like an altered bill. Until I see a certified paper showing it's real, then I'm going to stick to my opinion, Sorry guys numbers seem too far off.

Hi BaanosI used my program called gwyddion to analyse the (so called) folded part of you bill...As you can see where the arrows are pointing, it is indicative of a folded bill. To me, it is real (But remember, I am no expert)
