Hey Gang -

Another new addition to my Collection .. Just started working with these SBA dollars , came acrossed this One and Caught my eye with this Bluish toning it had ..

Curious what you all think about it ..

Also there is a SHARP Sharp Rim along this thing , I took photos of the area that is easily seen ..
Any ideas what would make it so sharp ?

Since I'm new to collecting SBA's - If anyone have some info I should take notes on for these ?

Any info on SBA's would be appreciated ..
I am currently reading alittle about them Via Google lol ..

Thanks in advance for any Insight on this one , and any In general .

\m/ Phil \m/

Here she is , Any ideas why she would be Blue ? and any insight on the Rim being so sharp , its raised more so on the entire obverse and its minor of the Reverse ..

Looks like someone used die on it and let it settle in the low spots. Neat looking coin but almost definately AT.

It is out of a Proof set tho ?

I broke it out today to add to the book ...

The other coins that were in the set also show mild bluing .. (well just the quarter and dime) ..

gona snap some photos of them as well ..

Ive seen it before on other proofs just not to this extent ..

But once I get the other photos of the quarter and dime ill post them for some other reference along with the penny and nickel just cause they also have some nice toning just not blue lol ..

thanks for your opinion tho buddy ..

Not ruling out AT just curious how it would happen in the original proof set holder ..

Possible re-sealing of the set? Did it look tampered with at all?

Not saying it's 100% AT, but it does look AT. It looks too perfect to me, like it was done very carefully rather than happening naturally.

Looks great, but I'd be hesitant about such toning from the beginning.

dont believe they would be AT out of the Proof set, no evident tampering. The pics for some reason look a lot more blue than they are in hand.

Thanks guys , And Pop.. *papatony saw this in the set before I broke it out*

The Set didnt look tampered with .. was a tough one to open compared to the other I broke for Kennedy halves and all ..

I still think its some form of AT , cause how is that natural ?

just dont know how it was done in the case . very odd to me .. and I've been collecting proof sets for a while now and have seen some tampered with and they have a distinct look in my honest opinion ..

And honestly Its really not as perfect as the photos may seem .. (take notice of some of the closer photos)

If you look at the one photo thats closer to the neck and "in god" area you can see the "blotchy" areas which in hand the whole coin shows. on the reverse its weaker then the obverse ..

Im guessing the angle I took the photos kept a solid blue sheen to it .. But in hand its not that blue nor perfect .. really spotty and looks a bit like some I've seen called "gun metal toned" ..

But again , not arguing one bit some of you may have seen these before and ** I know people have strange ways of doing things** ... And I have my doubts that a coin would tone like this on its own ..
Just curious if anyone saw one like it is all really ..

Seems odd that someone would be able to tamper with these style Proof sets **its a tough one to keep in tact when removing any coin , the way the SBA is held in is pretty strange** and to Break it open without leaving any trace of doing so is a skill I doubt many have lol .. (the 79 sets are in my opinion one of the toughest to break open neatly , but people again do strange stuff lol)

I appreciate the opinions. really helpful and got me a few ideas for searching online ..

Thanks again .!!

Blue toning on proofs in the OGP is not uncommon at all. Yours is a bit more even and less hazy than the usual, but I see nothing about it that suggests it's AT.

I Like it Blue toning is uncommon on CuNi clad proofs but it can occur, I have seen it on a number of Ikes but that toning makes even the normally ugly SBA look nice.

Hey John1 -

Im still using the good ole Canon PowerShot A470- with a super macro feature and the closer ones I hold a 10x loop combined with the Zoom feature on the camera itself ..

Works pretty well aslong as you have the White Balance set (which these cams and I'm sure others have it , its a "White balance evaluation tool" so it sets the cam to the lighting your using to clear it up better)

and Another thing I do is... I put my ISO down to "80" ... And one light source with the light around 3-4oclock with a couple white cards **photo paper** to bounce light if needed ... took a little practicing to get the hang of the picture part of this but , working pretty well ...

I like it as well. I do not see anything that screams AT to me, however, I only have the photos to go by.

Thanks JBuck-

I didnt think AT till it was mentioned lol .. thought there may have been a known case of tampering with these in holders or something haha ..

But the photos really Make it pop more so then in hand ... but geez for a miserable looking coin this one has to be my favorite :) ..

Thanks again for your time Guys . Much appreciated .!

Very unusual toning, it almost looks like it was painted on until you see the close-up pictures. I don't see how it could be intentional at all, it would be an amazing job if it was.
