I'm not sure. Realistically if I had a coin like this. I would have many more photos to show the side of the coin. I would have a certificate of authenticity from a coin dealer & a photo with a mirror behind it so you can see both "tails". Tails or tails...I choose tails...guess what? I WIN!

If I owned this coin I would'nt be selling it on ebay,an auction house would be the go & as Goatie said authenticity would be a must.

5 K is a lot of money & to be completely honest with you I have never heard of such an error & can't see how it is possible.
Even if I had the bucks to buy this I would not part with the bucks without rock solid proof that it is authentic.

Double headed (or tailed) decimal coins of the 1970's certainly do exist and there's usually one or two in each major Australian auction. They are not errors, but deliberately manufactured by mischievous mint staff of the period. One indicator of their authenticity is that the two sides are usually 180 degrees upset. The price on the ebay listing is pretty ambitious even if the coin is real, they usually get something in the $2k-$4k range.

Hmmm mint staff sport, well they must have also smuggled them out of the mint.
Why do they achieve these sort of prices ? I really don't see the value in them personally & certainly would'nt pay 2K for one so 5K+ is absolutely out of the question, mint sport coins nah not for me.

People can be very ingenious but the guy that knocked off the $2 coins from the Canberra Mint in the 1990's just filled his socks and shoes, the link in another thread here.Rumours about the Perth Mint in the 1970/80's seemed to suggest it was organised with several people involved including security guards, books about the Mickelbergs make great reading.

You could buy one of these at an Auction for less than $2,500 including commissions.

I received a reply today:

Dear goatieman23,

Hello again Grant....mate have just arrived home from work, evening's not a great time to shoot photos, will try again tomorrow afternoon....for all its worth the rim photos will be exactly the same as a brand new 20 cent piece....this unique coin is the mastermind of the mint's operators, a once off mintage, guaranteed you will not be disappointed....cheers...Ray

Thanks everyone, there was no way I would be buying it,too suss for me I am glad you all looked and responded to my post.
It may be genuine but most likely not,a certificate of authencity would of been required to take the listing seriously
