If you only had a limited amount of time to look for error and variety cents, what are your top 6 choices of cents to look at. And, what is the most common one that you've found yourself.

I'm slowly getting back into searching cents again. I am eager to see what's hot!

1992 & 1992-D CAM both worth $1,000++++
Now that Canada is going to stop their penny later this year, I am pulling out and saving their 98% copper cents.

Best to know what varieties you have under your glass/scope. Looking for something because of year is a big disappointment.

I also have been saving my copper pennies from canada and even the newer ones as well. Likewise I am searching frantically for the dang 1992 CAM everytime I pull out a 1992 from my bank rolls I get a little twitchy with hope only to be let down :* The other one that I want that I have really like is the 1980 DDO perhaps because that was the year I was born IDK but I like it.

I'd look for the bigger buck coins 92 CAM's, 99 WAM,72 DDO #1 & #4

I've found five 1995P-1DO-001's, but the most of any variety would be the 98&00 WAM's...lost track of those but dozens of each.

If I had a limited amount of time to look through coins I would take longer to look through the same amount of coins in exactly the same manner I already look at them. I don't EVER spot-check. There's no point in doing that. Choosing which coins you look through out of a pile that you haven't seen is pointless. This isn't a race to a finish-line.

I would like to find some more die clashes, those are real cool. But I look for everything, I separate the coins by variety and year (small dates, the DDO ears etc etc...) This gives me the opportunity to check each variety and get an eye for the exact error I am looking for. This helps me prevent eye strain when going through loose change banks at home. I also keep and store all my copper coins.

I think I would look for the ones YOU want to...who cares what everyone else thinks...are you in this to make money? Probably not...so look for what you want to collect.

If it was me I and IF I had to choose 6 only it would be the One Cent, Five Cents, 10 Cents, 25 Cents, 50 Cents and last but not least the 100 cents.... :)

After three weeks of diligent searching and some expert advise from this community, I have learned more than I expected in such a short time. So getting back into it will be easy for you. Post any pictures of coins your not sure about and an expert will let you know what ya got.

In three weeks I have gone through about 2000 pennies, the most common I find are the weak MAD cents, the devices are usually still on the coin so they are not worth much to collectors but I keep the ones I find. I found one clash that was a great find for me and one of my best finds so far, other than the 1939D nickel. I have found a few rim Cuds, die gouging, die cracks and chips. When I am searching through coins, I am looking for everything and separate coins that need closer attention into their own coin envelopes for further inspection at a later time, for example: small dates. I keep a cheat sheet in front of me and glance over each coin first looking for obvious errors or varieties and comparing the coin to my cheat sheet so I do not overlook a known error by mistake. After a few hours of that, you will start to memorize key dates and sought after errors like the doubled dies, CAMs and WAMs.

The hardest part for me is learning all the different doubling that can happen to a coin, some of it is collectable and some is not, research this topic well.

It is so much fun getting back into this, I have so much to learn yet.
