never heard of this "variety" before.

Just finished reading Ken Potter's rant about the 2004D Wisconsin Quarter and had to laugh when I saw "Toupee Lincoln"

http://koinpro.tripod.com/Articles/...ieGouges.htm I love his take on the situation as well as the fact that he creates his OWN coins and shows definitive evidence supporting his explanation just cracks me up. I like when after having read an article like that, I cannot argue with the point of view and his passion for the hobby comes through while defending it's "purity" like a father would their child. Its great! Plus I love when people rant intelligently - makes it more interesting.

The ebay coin just looks like an over-polished obverse die.

That is all it is. A cutsie name don't cover the fact that it is just a polished die with name.

coop...the "3 legged buffalo" nickel is a good example of how a cutsie name covered that fact.At least it raised the price and created a market when most of us know what it is.

The seller does mention this but makes it sound like something "major"

If you have to be convinced to buy something, then it's not worth buying. Seller trying to get rid of the stuff he has on unsuspecting prey.

That's good - I would be scratching my head if someone actually paid for it. Granted - it IS a curiosity, but to go as far as to market something as an "error" when it truly isn't. Oh well... alls well that ends well!
