I am looking to buy silver and am wondering what a fair price to pay for it is currently.

Its sitting between 29-30 right now. Youll almost always have to be a premium probably like 5 or 6 percent for it but the prices do change daily so their could be a spike or fall at any time.

This is all assuming you are just buying the metal and not some coin that fetches a premium of its own

to give you a fair idea of what to expect, price-wise

Spot silver price per troy oz:
http://www.kitco.com/market/

My local coin dealer charges Spot + 4 for ASE, Spot + 1.75 for other bulion, and a multiplier of face value for cull old silver and pre-1964 coins that are worth little premium.

The premium you'll pay at your source of coins may vary.

Always shop around. If you are just looking for silver I find that culls or old art bars have the best prices. For the culls make sure you do it by weight and not by face because they lose value as they ware.

I'm sure you can find 90% (junk silver) at 22x-25x face. As I write this 90% melts for around 20x. Like Silvercoinrn said culls/art bars for sure.

Personally I'm gonna wait for another silver drop (I think it will hit $25 in the next month). That's my buy point.
