the lighting is not the best and the color correction is awful on the photo, but odds are BadThad is 100% right. That said, most mint state 31-S cents do not look great because they were hoarded in less than ideal conditions.

If Thad says "pass" .......... You'd better pass on it ! ....

He's one of, (if not THE best) Lincoln experts here on CCF.

A certain '14-D comes to mind for me personally......

Good time to be looking for a 31-S, as this coin has soften due to people liquidating collections in this tough economic times. I've seen the prices for 31-S in the lower grades drop 20-30% in the last 2 years. Great time to buy this key date coin- while it is still a bargain!

Coin looks rather sick. I too think it should be passed up. And also, a bit over priced from what I see at coin shows.
I found it odd that I never heard of this seller since I'm not far from him. And odd too that he doesn't try to sell it at all the coin shows in the area. There are 4 coin shows a Month within several miles of him.

I think we have a buy and sell forum here somewhere. Try that.

Casu, you sound like me a couple of weeks back! I too followed Thads advice on a 31 S (I wanted one sooooooo bad) from ebay, that he sniffed out having been cleaned like a bloodhound! The result... fast forward to a great coin shop I found not too far from my house, and I got a very reasonable price on a 31 S in AU55 that I absolutely love!

The shop I got it from has great things, that I would be willing to go and snap pics for you of what he has if you'd like.

also, check out

www.millersmint.com

you can rest assured anything he has there as a certain grade will arrive exactly as described.

I would recommend you go the graded route. This is not a terribly expensive coin unless its MS67 or so. This will assure you the coin is problem free.

I agree and disagree. I think that especially like Mycrob said, prices have dropped--and I think that you can get an exceptional deal on a higher grade raw coin from a reputable source vs. still paying a higher price for a lower "graded" option. If this were a coin of 22 no D or a 09 S VDB then definitely.

I agree though it's always great to have that slab!

I actually just sent my 31 S off to anacs yesterday. So let's see how he measures up!

Sound advice! Also, if you have a good coin dealer nearby, I would use them. Ask joeturbo, he found a great dealer!
