I have been collecting for about a year now. I started off with Canadian nickels and have started a silver dollar collection. I do have some bullion, I have around 17oz, with silver dollars, half dollars, quarters, dimes. I also have pure silver 1oz.

OK here's my question. I've been thinking about selling most of the "numismatic" value coins for some pure silver bullion. I'm going to keep everything that I've bought for silver value. So would I "make" more money if I keep buying bullion? or keeping the numismatic value coins? thanks

I try to buy all silver coins for around bullion value. sometimes you can get lucky and get semi key dates that are in pretty nice condition.

Get yourself some rare date numismatic coins in the highest grade possible that won't break your bank. Silver ounces come and go, but coins are made once for that year, and that's it!

Hmm... I can't really comment on what would "make" you more money. I certainly have bought items that I thought would go up in value and to possibly sell later, ie speculative buys, but for the most part I simply buy what I like. Right now, I'm trying to get bullion coins from around the world, the SML wildlife series, and silver dollars. My "hoard" is around 30oz of silver and .15oz of gold. This is spread out between bullion, NCLT and silver dollars.

My advice would be to hold onto it all, and just add pieces you like as you can afford them.

Thanks guys. I probably will keep most of my coins, I think ill just sell the ones that don't interest me. Also I can get a lot of silver coins (Morgans, peace and other Canadian) for melt or a little above.

Good idea.

I would hate for you to regret selling something that you might miss.

I have sold coins which I lost interest in before but now wish I hadnt.

Youre tastes come and go and it can be nice to sell some of the coins youre less attached to so you can get more interesting ones. When youre deciding which ones to discard of remember that your likes/dislikes may well change again in 6 months and you dont want to regret selling anything.

Everyone knows numismatic coins are better than bullion

As long as you have a plan and you are happy in the end.

I will always go for the collectible silver coins they are far more interesting than having dozens/hundreds of ASE's or maple's.
A collectible coin has a far better chance of increasing in value than a pure bullion round regardless of the silver price.
I have quite a bit of silver in Aussie pre decimal coins along with US and Canadian silver that I will probably never part with but they have increased in value since I bought them at a better rate than the intrinsic value of them has.
I also collect Aussie nclt silver coins roo's, Koala's etc.
Some of my favorites are the silver $5 coins at over 36 grams of either Stirling or fine silver they are a decent lump of silver and have great designs to boot.

I found that it is easier to sell coins that you either no longer collect or have upgraded a present collection.
