my 2010 krause says 1966 5c is worth $1.50 -$1.75 (depending on mint),

my numismaster krause lists the same at $8.00-$9.00

i am noticing a fair number of other coins that share the same "jump",

has there been a real surge in world coins in the last 2 years?

does anyone have a 2012 PAPERBACK krause that could look up KM 64 australia 5c 1966 (please and thanks)

NGC's World Price guide has that coin MS60 ($7) and MS63 ($9) for 1966(c), and for the 1966(L): MS60 ($6), MS63 ($8).

Apparently Krause did notice an increase in World Coins.

Does it have anything to do with the Australian Dollar gaining value vs USD?

A professional coin dealer friend of mine once referred to Krause pricing as akin to the product of a random number generator. Maybe a little too harsh.

I have all four of the Krause books covering the last four hundred years. They are an essential tool for the collector of World coins of this whole period.

I have a copy of 'Renniks Australian Coin and Banknote Values'. (Printed and published in Australia.) An uncirculated 1966 5 Cents is listed at $8.

If I were to buy one at a coin show, I would consider paying about $4 for an uncirculated example. As it turns out, I don't really collect Australian coins! I have but a few interesting ones only. Interestingly, there are far more U.S. coins in my collection than Aussie ones.

The differences in the exchange rate at this price level are negligible.

Somewhat negligible?

In 2001 when 1 USD = 0.45 AUD - over past ten years, since we hit parity, the cost of AU coins in US prices would have doubled? - What would have once cost 4 USD (8AUD) would now cost 8USD.

It's not a world coin. It's an Australian coin.

Within the CCF, I could not figure out if I was a 'darksider' or not.
In a U.S. based website, I have more U.S. coins than Australian ones.

Are the U.S. coins in my collection to be defined as "World coins?"

And whose 'darkside' am I on?

"world" coins being from the "world" coin catalog.

that being said, I have found other countries with similiar huge jumps in pricing between the 2010 and 2012 catalogs.

is this an accurate refelction of the hobby or an attempt to "fluff" the hobby?

i purge my collection now and then, trying not to keep anything under $5 (unless it has cool factor or is part of a set).

there is a substantial difference of a coin being worth 15 cents or $8. (and I cant see any coin jumping that much, let alone a whole bunch straight across the board)
