here's a funny one

http://cgi.ebay.com/25c-1970-D-Off-...th_W0QQitemZ280078789317QQihZ018QQcategoryZ524QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

read the description, the coin obviously has pvc "green slime" but to take it out and treat it with acetone it, would devalue the historical value of the mailing.

This is not my type of error I would want for my collection, I just thought the green slime bit was funny.

I'm tempted to snag that, if only to save the coin. I believe the need to preserve the error outweighs any contextual significance.

Dave, that is a very common error (that year, 1970), it is SO common that I don't even own one.

Do a search on ebay, ther are many for that year. A great many were produce on accident by mint employees.

Now talk about cool errors, well I picked up a few real nice ones (under 50 bucks) recently and one for a little more but it is just a "perfect" example.

That's good to know. I'm stretched thin enough as it is.

Dave,

You hit the nail on the head...these cool errors stretched me out so much as I have to sell a 2001 AB 2 coin set to cover them.

Always trading in coins for new ones.

I just came back from a coin show. One dealer had a entire table of error coins. Most were from $1 to $10. Only rare ones were selling for more. Even ones like that are not that expensive.
Also, exactly what is PVC green slime? PVC does not turn any metal green. The chemicals that leak out of PVC are chlorine based and none turn metals green. Copper coins that turn green are primarily from exposure to O, then CO2 then moisture. It is called a patina and seldom if ever from PVC.

Yes that particular coin error is considered common. Relatively. Apparently a bunch got out. I would leave it as is. Gusp
