Nice coin. The obverse looks like its had a clean with olive oil but that never bothers me with copper. Might also just be the lighting.

I feel like I got a good deal!! Numismedia has XF listed as $55.00 and RedBook has it listed as $70.00. My real question is, is this coin in XF condition to you guys?

Not close to XF. VF20 would be fair.

Hmmm....no easy way to type this. That is a VF. Cheekbones are not seperated and the wheat kernels are not seperated. No seperation of either....no XF grade.

I could see it going VF25 and maybe VF30 with a generous, liberal grader. It is not an XF coin. The rim ding hurts it too and that's why I said VF20, which is the conservative grade.

It's a $25 coin.

Im in the process of getting a refund as we speak. Thanks for the heads up guys. I guess I am a little inexperienced with grading and stuff. Trying to get the best bang for my buck and build this lincoln wheats set. I just want to get these keys and semi keys reduced a bit in my wants list. That is the hardest thing for me right now as a college student.

Grading is hard...darn hard. Then there is the BN, RB, RD designation. There is a tougher differentuation between a true XF and AU. But, for a lot of coins, regardless of series, there can be quite a jump in price.

I Would grade the Obv VF20 and the Rev VF30 with an overall grade of VF30. I hope all goes well with your refund.

There are some really good references out there that will help you with grading, but trial and error with inexpensive coins can give you the experience you need to prevent costly mistakes.

These guys here are probably some of the best and most experienced at grading coins. This forum is probably the best way to hone your skills in this regard.

Ask questions like, Why a person graded a coin a certain way or What are the amounts of red to brown to make it a BN, RB & RD?

You can also go to auction sites and look at their slabbed coins to get an idea on how they grade coins.

Be resourceful, pay attention to detail and make the effort to learn and you may have people on here asking you what a coin should be graded in the future.

Thank you so much jdbooth!! That was a very thought out and good response..I have been on here for like a little over a year now and have learned so much! I seriously started from absolute scratch from collecting. I can honestly say that I have probably lost more money than gained, but it has been fun and I am learning more and each day. People like you make the experience even better :) I do appreciate each and every one of you and all your responses!
