On a side note, I am glad that ebay decided to include ANACS and ICG. Both of those companies have been around for a while and are well respected.

Spider that is an interesting point about the ancient coins. Personally I wouldnt be comfortable buying coins that pricey off ebay with no third opinion but thats just me.

I doubt theyd do it, but 1 solution could be to separate ancient coins or something like coins 500+ years old into their own category with their own rules.

I recently sold a Gold Aureus of Septimius Severus for over $5,000.00. Eventhough it was graded by Sear, according to the new ebay rules, I wouldn't be allowed to sell it on their site.

The rules make sense for modern issues, but I don't think they thought about ancient coins.

I expect this ebay change is mostly in relation to US coins. Does ANACS or PCGS even do grading of foreign coins?

I checked out ANACS S/N Look-up, I must say that it is very low-tech. They have had YEARS to come up with some sort of verification system (like PCGS and NGC) and this looks like a "hurry up" job. Modern numbers pulled up fine with minimal details, older slads with alpha characters? Forget it. A "contact ANACS for further details" (or something along those lines) message popped up. Hopefully they will put a lot of polish on their "product".
