Hi members of the US coin and currency forum!

I am a Canadian who has been receiving a lot of American coinage recently because of a new job. I primarily receive many US quarters ranging from the 1940's to 2011, and it is the same case for US pennies.

I really have no knowledge about circulated modern American coins, so I was hoping to get more information telling me what to keep an eye out for. Any information would be much appreciated, and of course thank you!

I would say first of, do you have a copy of the Red Book of US coins? That wll give you a general idea of what to look for and save. In quarters, anything 1964 and below is 90% silver. In cents, anyone below 1982 is 95% copper.

Yes, 1964 and older quarters are 90% silver. Also keep any wheat back cents 1958 and older.

As noted you need a copy of the Red Book by Whitman Publishing. Not sure if any coin type stores or hobby stores in Canada would have one but try that Wizzard coin supply place on the internet. Or Amazon on the internet. IF you have any friends or relatives here in the USA ask them to get you one and send it to you.
Not only are there a lot of sort of expensive coins listed but a lot of possible error coins to watch out for.

Hi Mrent,

As stated US quarters 64 or before 90% silver and US pennies 58 before are 90% copper, but there are key dates to watch for, The quarters more to watch for are in the 30's, but the pennies do have one in the 50's, like the 55 double die, you would look at the date for doubling, ebay is great place to find prices, Red Book also, I'm new to the forum too,

Susan and Bobby have Guide Books of US coins ( Redbooks ) up for sale here.
So they have them available. I think in 15 more quality posts you can "pocket it now" here.
Perhaps a nice email to Forum Mom and Dad, Susan and Bobby, may help you get around this since they also sell on ebay.

Thank you everyone for your posts! It looks like I will have to order the RedBook from the internet, which I don't mind at all, since it always useful to have a good coin guide around. Thank you once again, and cheers.
