I see on the mint's web site that on 6/21 they will be issuing ATB Quarters for the San Francisco facility in both mint mark Bag and Roll for the El Yunque. Do you suppose that this product is a legitimate numismatic product or just an attempt to get more money from the collector populace. IMO I do believe that this product in NIFC and falls right in line with the current Kennedy halves. I do believe that they will be clad. Are these coins really worth purchasing and stashing away for future reward. What is your opinion?

I dont like them personally since they either will be a 1 off thing, or if the series continues it will be incomplete. I'm not opposed to the idea, but IF they are going to do it for the ATB Quarters it should have included all the quarters or picked a different series

I agree with baseball21, it's a gimmick, but the flippers will be out in force June 21st, the current mintage of 1.4 million quarters will go fast in the bags and rolls format just like the Arthur dollars once they were offered for sale in April. The Mint had to ironically strike more of those dollars to keep up with demand. I'm not sure if they will strike more but they can to avoid a sellout. I'll probably try to get a roll since those will be under $20 a pop.

http://www.coinworld.com/articles/s...tion-qualit/Quote:Jurkowsky said the U.S. Mint plans to strike 7 million 2012-S America the Beautiful Quarter dollars in circulation-quality -- a maximum of 1.4 million each for coins with reverse designs representing El Yunque National Forest (Puerto Rico), Chaco Culture National Historical Park (New Mexico), Acadia National Park (Maine), Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park (Hawaii) and Denali National Park (Alaska). 1.4 million of each? They can click the entire 5-site run out in one weekend. Why sell them in rolls and bags by site? They should sell them as a complete S-mint set if they are meant as "numismatic sales." Quote:Jurkowsky said if numismatic sales of the 2012-S America the Beautiful Quarter dollars prove successful, U.S. Mint officials might consider offering additional quarter dollars struck at the San Francisco facility. Of course they'll be "successful." The entire run will be bought in one day by the flippers looking to sell them on ebay for increased premiums. It seems to me that after dropping the ball with the 2011 25th Anniversary Eagle set fiasco, the Mint tried to make things right with the upcoming 2012 2-coin SF Eagle set minted to demand. But now they're immediately dropping that ball again, and we're going to be the ones to literally pay for it by way of increased premiums if you only want one of each of these quarters.

Of course, that being said, I'll be right there in line on June 21 trying to get my hands on a roll or two. The only difference now is that I was going to order the SF Eagle set on June 7th, but since those will be minted to demand for almost an entire month, I'll wait until June 21 to order those too so that I won't have to pay twice for S&H. Good thing about that I guess is that I'll get to see how the Eagle set sales go for two weeks before buying them. But oh no, I won't be eligible for the coveted First Strike designation! I still don't understand people who go for first strikes in a limited time set like this or limited mintage set like the 25th Anniv set...

Yeah, it seems that the Mint is back to their old gags again and trying to rip off the average collector. This new director is a real screw ball. The screwiest of them all and I've been following them, since the late 70s. it is a real shame they are doing this. It'll be interesting to see how high their prices go and stay, after the sale is over and people have them to sell on ebay for a quick and huge profit.

That could be interesting. Now the question is has there been any "offical" statement to that effect? That they will mint to demand. If not I could see a REAL crowd of angry collectors if they go on sale with an official statement of a mintage of 1.4 million, and then they just go ahead and mint to order instead.
