I compared these 1964 pennies and the one on the right seems to have a Close AM

1964-Close-AM?

Both of those coins have the same normal reverse for that year.
Rest in Peace

Wide AM's and Close AM's are only relevant between the years 1992-2000.

Wide and Close AM can also be identified by the "TAT" in States. if the letters "T A T" have even spacing its a Wide AM if the "T AT" looks like that with the 2nd T close to the A its a CLOSE date. I think Coop explained that in another post I dont remember where it was sorry. I just know it has helped me in my search.

If you want examples...get a 1992 cent for an example of a Wide AM
and a 1993 for an example of a Close AM (use business strikes Philly or Denver)

When I zoomed in it appeared to me that the coin on the right had some damage to the left leg of the M pushing the bottom of said leg out toward the A. just my humble opnion

The diagnostic information given for wide and Close AM cents, while applicable elsewhere, is not applicable here. This is a 1964 cent. It does not fall within the range of dates to even qualify as either wide or Close AM.

The reverse design used to hub 1964 cent reverse dies was the same throughout the year. The only remarkable difference between these two coins is perhaps the die state of each die as they struck each coin. There is no "variety" difference on any of the 1964 business strike cents.

No matter what date of memorials, the Wide AM has the AME centered on the "M". Note on the example above. The "M" is centered. On the Close AM the M is off center to the left on these. So it's not the space between the A & M that is the determing factor. It is where the "M" is centered. This applies for all memorials as to close or Wide AM's.

Maybe " Wide AM" and " Close AM" is misleading terminology. It might make more sense to talk about it in terms of RDVs the way we do with the 1988 RDV-006.

1998, 1999 and 2000 WAMs are RDV-006. "Normal" 1993-2008 are RDV-007, as are the rare 1992 and 1992-D CAMs.

1964 is always RDV-001 and the next new RDV (RDV-002) did not appear until 1969.

( Lincoln Memorial cent RDV reference)

Do you realise the thread you were replying to is 8 years old

AND, Wide AM's and Close AM's are only relevant between the years 1992-2000.
