Hold on folks.
I agree that the damage is deliberate, but if there's a D under that small date, and the coin is copper, it has some potential value.
Can you weigh the coin on a reasonably accurate scale, say one that would distinguish something that weighs 2.5 grams from something that weighs 3.1 grams?
In 1982 the Denver mint produced only a very few cents in copper (no one knows how many), so if you're coin does have a D on it and weighs 3.1 grams (or reasonably close) it could have some value.
Of course the damage detracts from that value significantly, but before you toss it into your cup holder please drop it on a scale and let us know the results.
Also, any better photos of what you think is the mint mark would be very helpful as well.

It's not a D. The "D" is PSD. Much too low and because of the void the date, there wouldn't be any metal to fill the MM on the die when this coin was struck. And if it were PSD over an actual MM, whatever caused this depression would have obliterated any sign of a MM. Words of encouragement are one of the major food groups.
We need to consume them regularly to thrive and grow.
