The amount of hair details on the obverse looks a lot like an EF coin but I have never this amount of luster on any EF coin. IMHO, it suggest that the details were not there to begin with. My guess would be that this coin would grade somewhere around an AU-55.
I'm suspicious of this coin. The Obverse side of the coins wear and lack of luster do not match with the Reverse side of the coin. There could be various reasons for this.
The coin looks like it was stuck in a folder at some time. Possibly the reason for the worn obverse was contact from the other side of the folder or someone's finger. The reverse looks really sharp and the luster is very strong, in my opinion its an AU53.
I'm not a grader but the REV plays a smaller role in the grading scheme, and the OBV I agree does look EF, I would thing an over all grade of perhaps AU 50
I was looking through the VAMS, is it possible this is a double ear?
Possibly, but I think not. The doubled-ear 1891 is among the most prominent doubling on any Morgan, and it would be quite obvious to the naked eye. It should be visible even in the small images presented here.
Unfortunately this coins Obverse is in such poor shape compared to the Reverse. The Reverse of this coin will not help with a higher grade. Beleive me, try to sell it as an AU, you wont be able to. At best I would give it an EF grade. On the plus side there is not much price difference from F to AU.
