Just came across this site. I was cleaning out my desk and found this coin. I THINK it came from my father-in-law's estate, don't know how else I would have ended up with it. Didn't realize I had it in my drawer this whole time. Help grading?

I would say EF-45 to AU-50. Nice coin!

I am going to guess that it is at least XF45 from the small images. It looks untampered with as far as cleaning etc. DO NOT CLEAN THIS key date and get it in a safe holder that is PVC free. It deserves a Capital holder or should be sent away to be professionally graded. If you decide to keep it in a 2x2 cardboard holder, be careful with your stapler. Some staplers will bite the rim of the coin even though the staples are placed well away from it. Be careful and again.... DO NOT CLEAN THIS COINGreat important Peace dollar and to CCF!

Thanks to both of you! About the small pics, that's as big as they let me upload! I did find it easier to look at them in high resolution on my screen before I had to downsize. Thanks for the tips....definitely won't clean. I honestly don't know for sure how I ended up with it, but when I searched I realized it's a good thing! I feel bad it was sitting in my stupid desk drawer this whole time! What should I put it in between now and figuring out what I'm going to do with it?

You'll want to get it in a safe coin holder of some kind as soon as possible, but a ziplock bag is fine for the moment. Just avoid touching it as much as possible, and handle it by the edges if you do have to handle it. You don't want to get a big fingerprint or scratch on the face of the coin. You probably have a local coin shop that can provide you with a safe holder to keep it in. They may also be able to help you submit it to a third party grader if you decide to do that. It looks like a nice original coin. If you decide to sell it, you're going to make some Peace dollar collector very happy.

I will go with EF-45. It looks like an AU but the luster may keep it out of the AU grade. Great find!

I think Au 53 or maybe better. $300. Key of the series and a glaring hole in my album

I think the feather detail on the reverses is in solid AU territory; AU53/5

Looks about AU 50 to 53 to me, but the pics are a bit small.

Nice find. There seems to be something on the reverse around 1 o'clock. Not sure if its a hair or a scratch. But looking at those pics. I would say AU50

Xf-au, get it graded to authenticate, preserve, and make it easier to sell in the future
