Look under the chin and in front of face. Have some questions: Is this a planchet defect? Would this be considered an error or a variety? Any premium? Thanks for the help, John1

It's gotta be some kind of strike though... I think? Very unusual.

Under the chin:best guess struck through
In front of face:again a guess; massive sub plating zinc causing the plating to split and collapse,or maybe zinc lamination peel before plating.
Premium:maybe if face wasn't so scraped.

Its a goiter

Looks like a planchet defect. It does look strange around the face as well. I would hold it in a 2x2 to hold for sure. Hopefully someone will chime in to answer the questions.

isn't that feeder finger die damage? Feeder finger die scrapes is what looks like trails where feeder finger die damage looks like that in a way. I found a whole bunch of them in 2008 in a new box that looked similar to that.

It can't be Feeder Finger Damage because it's incuse.

I have a hard time wrapping my head around this, because the "damage" appears concentrated around the devices, but doesn't appear to affect the devices, and yet it's incuse, so it has to be something on the die, rather than damage to the die. PMD would have exposed zinc with holes that deep, and a planchet defect should affect the devices as much as the fields (and would be placed more randomly rather than being concentrated around the devices).
