Why is it that the most beautiful images appear on bullion coins of platinum, gold, and silver? I'd much rather see these images on circulating coinage.

That is easy. The average American has no idea that these coins even exist. The Mint pretty much has free reign on these coins.

Its the dead President thing !! that keeps our coins from having something of true artistic, Historic and meaningful images on them !!!

Sad thing but it seems that (We the people) have little to do with our country anymore!!

The answer to that is simple. PROFIT..! They know people won't buy the heads of dead presidents anymore but the old coins are always being talked about.

They want to sell the bullion coins but don't have to worry about the circulating ones.

Hey Catman, if they really thought that, why are they trying to put the first ladies on gold coins?

I had to explain this very subject to my veternarian this afternoon (my cat Nuisance has a bit of a cough). He asked about the value of "these new silver dollars" meaning ASEs which he had seen for sale on Coin Vault. I described the differences between bullion and circulation coins and that the ASE is an absolutely drop dead gorgeous coin, but not worth anywhere near what Coin Vault was asking, even in the very highest slabbed grades, that my PCGS MS-69 2003 ASE would at best bring in maybe only $15. He was still interested, so while he was poking, prodding, and sticking my poor kitty (who was very patient, but more than a little POed at the indignities), I went into the "howevers" explaining that yesterday's common coins are today's treasures and that ASEs might indeed be worth a lot more in a generation or two, viz. Morgans. He's sniffing at the bait, so when I take Nuisance back for a follow-up exam in ten days, I'll take in some Morgans and ASEs on the hook and a couple local dealers' names to set the hook.

Morgan Fred, Take some extras or even better leave an ASE as a gift to your Vet for a job well done! He will be hooked from that point on! Personally I find great satisfaction buying and selling (should the time be right) coins or coin sets. We are our own boss when it comes to this hobby and I like the idea of blaming no one but my self when I win, lose or draw!
