Saint Ninian, yes it is all in the chase and man it's fun. I ask everywhere I go Costco 2 rolls,IGA 4 rolls, and of course Safeway. Another place up your way,( little store at 103 mile house ;-) ) try the overwaitea food group chain of stores in your area has also worked for some rolls down here. Problem is a lot of the kids have no idea what you are talking about. Walked into a bank ask the teller if they had any silver dollars or 50 cent pieces, she said no we do not sell silver. How about the 50 cent pieces I asked, her reply we do not get U.S. coins up here in Canada . As I pounded my head on the deck at the window my 6 year old said it's the big coin with the canoe on it and the coat of arms on the other. The best deer in the head lights I have ever seen and she was about 26

WCP, that is a funny story. However as I am 22, none of my friends understand nor know anything about this "hobby" of ours. Since I told people that I collect coins, especially at work, all I hear from my friends is "how much is this coin worth, how about this one? whats the most expensive coin in the world, how many coins do you have?" while those questions are entertaining, and somewhat annoying at times lol, it just points out how little (or nothing) the general public knows about coins. To that point, I think that ignorance in this case points to a HUGE advantage for those of us who are in the know about what the true value of coins are and their rarity. I have yet to await for the question from one of my friends who has some old silver dollars..."how much is this 1948 dollar worth?"...ohhh about melt value...

In the past I have told friends but keep a lower profile now as most asked why collect coins there are no valve in them IS THERE? Comments like" those are all dirty, why not clean them!!!! " Drive me nuts. Ya ignorance is bliss for us at times. Then again there are young tellers that do know a lot about coinage.

lol@Royal. I have the same problem. This one lady asked me about the coins I collected and I gave her some reference. When I told her about the 2006 Penny NPNL she now looks through all her change and asks me if this is a good coin lol. I dont mind telling people over and over its like me being the teacher and educating those that have no idea, its fun.

WCP--lol--sometimes you feel like a voice, crying in the wilderness. However , it's the best treasure-hunt experience out there. You'll never be bored if you carry a small magnifying glass for those moments when you're stuck at the mall, waiting for your kids at the coffee shop or whatever. Just whip out the loupe and check the change you got from your coffee to test yourself and see how much you can remember about the dates +denominations. People check you out, but generally leave you to your task. Beats a paperback novel, anytime. Will try to get to the places you suggested. Thanks again for your help. Allra Best!

@Stat. I work for BMO but they do not carry any more Pennies as they are only allowed so many per bank. Unfortunately, they went like hot cakes lol. I was just lucky to have friends that work in the cage and promised to hold 4 rolls for me. Now I wished I had asked for 6 lol. Anyone in canada might want to go to RONA. If I do recall, I onced asked for 10 rolles of pennies and the guy was giving me all new 2011 uncirulated. I didnt take them at the time but big stores like RONA or The Home Depot will have them.

Hi folcan. Sorry to disappoint on The Home Depot front, but no, we don't get new rolls on a regular basis either. Every now and then, but it seems to be hit and miss, with more miss than hit. I work for THD, and my job allows me access to rolls, but I've only seen new ones a couple of times in the past few months. And no 2012 pennies, sigh.

@folcan99, you had said you can get rolls from the main or head office bank, sorry but that will not work in this city. Every bank or main bank told me the same thing "we do not get coins or rolls from the mint, we do not have any new rolls"
There it is all hit and miss.

Try asking the bank manager to order some in for you if you cant find them. Typically speaking, if you order a box of 2012 pennies, they will ding you with a $45 Handling /delivery charge + the $25 for the box.

@mcshilling, I was pointing out that I work at the H.O. so perhaps they may have them there. Usually, H.O branches receive coins via brinks. Where I work, we have the central currency department where we distribute money to our branches within the District. The Currency Dept. get their currency from Bank Of Canada. All H.O Branches work in the same manner.
