I'm learning but it's been painful.

Cheap 4mp Olympus c-770 camera is all I have right now.
By taping up a translucent plastic bag, like you put vegetables in at the grocery store, in front of my desk lamp that I use for a light source has helped so much.

Now you just need another light. Try a white opaque bag too.

Milkjugs work really well too.

Cut off the bottom about half way, and shoot through the top of the jug. I've got three different ones I use.

Namachielia: I'm trying to visualize a milk jug. Would you post a pic of what yours look like?

buy some 12v led strip lights, make up 2 little reflectors from aluminium cans, cut and mount about 5 strips of 3 leds, solder them together and hook up some power and set them up each side and just behind your your camera. by changing the angles you can get different lighting effects. my camera crapped itself so I cant even show you the light setup, it wont fit in the scanner. but about $15 should get 5 metres of led strip lights delivered from ebay.
taken with just one led light setup, the light was too far away in this one, hence the shadows
