I've done some searching on here and have found several posts on high end digital photographic options. I wanted to ask if anyone here has found an inexpensive usb type device that can do 5x- maybe 20x and has the ability to take a picture of an area at least as big as a silver eagle? I read that the carson zorb has a small photographic area, and I don't have a lot to invest in equipment.
I would however like to have something I can slide coins under to help me roll search and take pics when I want. Also I pretty much can't participate to the extent that I would like in this forum without one.
So maybe you guys can point me in the right direction, or pssibly have what I'm looking for!
Steve

I have got a cheap as chips usb microscope ( less than $50) and when I want the do detailed checks on coins I just set it up and pass the coins under it. Everything shows up on the screen in high detail absolutely brilliant. So do yourself a favor and get yourself one, never let fear get in the way of your ambitions

I have a Celestron 44302 and paid just under $60 and I am not all that happy with it. I think if you plan on being in the hobby for a long time, (and you will) you should save up and get a nice higher end Dino-Light ($300+/-) John1

I agree with John1. You get what you pay for. Get yourself a Dino-Lite. I have an AM-411T and am very satisfied with the results.

You should be able to find a Celestron USB microscope for under 45 bucks not including shipping. Google em and Amazon will come up.

With the celestron 44302 is it says 10x-40x and 150x. Can you get a full ASE picture with a minimum of 10x? Seems like I wouldn't be able to take a full picture... I was thinking about trying this one it says it goes down to 5x; http://www.amazon.com/Digital-Micro...89757&sr=8-3

ok I ordered that one. $43 shipped. best guess will be that it has lighting issues but the celestron had horrible reviews on the led breaking and being hard to focus so no loss there...
We'll see in a few days...

Ok I have received the product! But I can't figure it out :(
Would anyone know how to default it to save as jpg instead of a photoshop pro file? I can't upload anything. Also is there any way to set the max file size?
This thing is pretty generic so I'd imagine if theres a way to do it with a celestron it would probably be the same for this product.
Holding off on official reviews until I get it running right

With the inexpensive USB scopes this is about as close as you can get to full ASE you can get a full image... but it will be out of focus

I'd post an official review but the microscope that I linked to officialy has no name. It has software by vimicro corp/ the corp now know as installshield. When I put the disk in it said " No match Find for USB Microscope" There is really no software, when you try to edit photo options it does not ever save anything you adjust. I will only save in.bmp meanng you need to change to jpg and then optimize the image just to post on here. Buyer beware! having said that, here's a picture I took with it. I would say that its good for running coins under to aid your eyes. You can judge the picture quality...
