I went out for a short dig this afternoon. I was driving by a local park when I noticed that they had excavated a section of the park about 8 feet wide and 50 feet long. It looks like they will be putting new water pipe in for the hydrants. At least that is what it looks like by the paint on the ground where they have yet to dig. They removed about 8 inches of soil. I figured I would hit it with the detector...you never know. Only cool find was this heavy ceramic lid of some type with a cut wire wrapped around it. It is 3 3/4" in Diam x 3 1/4" height and weighs in at 1 lb 10 0z. I got it all cleaned out and it is a lid that screws on to something as there are threads in the center. It was down another 2 inches so about 10 inches below ground level. Here are the pictures. There is a number 6 inside a oval stamped on it. I tried to outline as best I could in one of the pics. Sorry for the rough outline...it is tough to trace it using the mouse.

Any ideas as to age or what it would be used for? It is very interesting.

Ahh cool. Thank you for the information. Is there any real age to it? Value is of no concern as it looks cool sitting on my shelf.

I love the fast response time. :)

I am not in the electrical field, so I don't know its age or a value. I think it is a fairly modern version.

The older ones are clear or colored glass. my son collects them. It looks like a fairly common one. Just saying.
