Dear all members,

I am thinking about get one of these 2 coins: The glass bumble bee (GBB) and The Toronto city map (TCM). Both coins have it owns unique features that I love. I wish I can get both if I can afford.
Please give me some advise which one should I get?
Which coin has a long term value?
Below are some of my opinions:
* If I choose the GBB one, I have to pay $400-500 for the first one in the series. Too much for me.
* If the RCM gonna make another cities of Canada, so the TCM will be the first one in the series.
* I also like the size of the TCM coin. It is big enough for display in my glass-door cabinet in the living room.

Thanks for all advices.

Given everything else aside -ie scope of your collection, future intentions of investing vs pure collecting, etc, purely one to one, I'd take the City of Toronto coin on a personal basis- I'm from Toronto but don't get to spend much time there anymore. Lil nostalgia over a strict novelty item. Thats just my Two Cents though.

For the Toronto coin I would think you have a limited customer base. I'm from Toronto and had little interest in this coin (at least at first). So the bee wins for mass appeal. But long term value? 2oz of silver is better than one oz. So I think the Toronto coin wins long term.

I'd vote for the Toronto Map coin as well, but for different reasons.
The ladybug coin will be the one that will retain its value and possibly grow even more IMO. The ladybug is the first of its kind and have a mintage half as large as the glass bee. If you look at other RCM series (crystal snowflake, selectively oxidized dinos, 25 cent coloured birds, etc), the second coin in the series tend not to rise by much if it is not also the lowest mintage)

The Toronto coin is not exactly one of a kind though. Pamp Suisse manufactured a very similar one for New York (and Paris or Sydney?) as well.

Quote:
On the Toronto Map coin:
RCM didn't mint these. They were contracted out to PAMP SUISSE. PAMP SUISSE botched the capsules, producing capsules that were too thin and that rubbed against the reverse of the coin. RCM then negotiated with PAMP SUISSE to fix the problem mid production, delaying shipment of the coins at first, and finally backing out of the order. The Toronto map coin never sold out, but that's because it was pulled mid-production. It will be interesting to see what the final mintage on the coin is, because it should be no where close the advertised 7,500.

CC-Ottawa was kind enough to point that 3,948 of the Toronto map coin was produced. Based on this lower number and the fact that this is still the first 2oz fine silver coin (very sizable coin, definitely displays better than the glass be), i'd put my money on this instead of the glass bee.

What the bee has over the map coin though is general popularity. Not a lot of non-collectors outside of Toronto would consider purchasing the Toronto coin just because, but not so for the glass bee.

I think it's safe to say that, in the long run, neither will make you thousands (or even a hundreds) of dollars in profit. So, the bottom line I suppose, is to just get the coin that most appeals to you.

Thanks Jpaiva83!
Do you have all of them? Are they from RCM or another Mints?
Where do you find find those coins?
I google them, but can't find any information. Or this is just a joke?

I don't have any of these coins.
They were made by the PAMP SUISSE Mint.

Here is the link for the New York coin.

This link is for Paris

You can do a google image search for "legendary city pamp" to see the other three coins.

Looks like they only made five coins (plus Toronto) in the set.

As I've said on other posts, if you're looking for long term value stay away from NCLT's like these two. :-) If you want precious metals then buy bullion. If you want long term value then buy a nice rare circulation coin from someone who doesn't know it's value. Otherwise stick to the casinos; the odds are better. :-) That being said, I have both these coins (or at least I will once the mint gets around to delivering the bumble bee I ordered 2 months ago) and most everything else with a face value of $30 or less. And I don't expect I'll ever get my sunk costs back but that's not why I bought them. My 2 nickels worth.

I think Toronto has a long lasting historical value. It is larger, and looks almost like a real coin.

The GBB is a fantasy coin. A curiosity. But is my wife's pick of the year. That's important.

DISCLOSURE: I own both.

As of today, for collection purposes I would get the Toronto Map just because you can still get it at issue price (at least at Gatewest, http://store.gatewestcoin.com/cgi/v...69f&t=77548), while the bee is only being sold at a premium (unless you can find one at a post office).

This 3D butterfly coin has the same concept as the GBB one.
