What a find! I was picking through a foreign coin dealer's junk box during Long Beach and I found this beauty for 25 cents! The rectangular stain you see on the reverse was from the idiot dealer's adhesive price sticker. I know these coins are widely counterfeited so I was hoping to get some of your opinions on its authenticity. I'm going to go to my dealer soon and maybe have him send it to PCGS but for now I was hoping some of you could tell me whether you think it's authentic or not. Also, could you take a jab at its die variety? Thanks a lot. -Ash Edited by ReefAsh 06/04/2012 7:43 pm

It looks a lot better "in person" though, my scanner made it look kind of dull...

I am by no means an expert on these coins, however I think that the coin is a counterfeit.
The coin has a very "grainy" appearance to me, and just does not look right.

I know what you mean. The grainy look is because of my scanner.

I would take it out of the 2x2 and take a photo of the edge of the coin. The counterfeiters often get that bit wrong with this series. My first impression is that it is not the read deal because of the rims.

It does not scream fake to me. I think it is genuine. However, it is harshly cleaned and has had a very rough life. VG10 details...but P01 $ value.

Details look accurate. Would be a PHENOMENAL find for 25 cents. Looks to be about a G-4 details coin if authentic.

Something about this coin doesn't look right. The date looks a bit malformed, in particular the 3 which does not appear to match either style found on genuine examples.

It has a cast appearance to it and I doubt any dealer, world or U.S., would overlook this coin if genuine. What is the weight?

Just weighed it at 25.4 grams. It doesn't stick to a magnet by the way.

w/ D0ubl3Eagle. The 3 is all wrong. The Sm 3 has a knob at the end of the lower loop, & the Lg. 3 has a full serif at the top of the 3. Yours seems to have half a serif in this location. To be honest I too would have bought that for a quarter.

closest to the small 3 variety, but not quite right. Could be damage, but I would still lean towards a replica of some kind based on my earlier comments.
