The S is up between the 9 and can't figure out the next digit, then the 6 is over by the rim.

Interesting.

I don't know this for sure, but I think on a coin that old, it is possible that the MM could be anywhere (within reason) because it was applied separately.

I'll go see what I can find out about that, meanwhile, maybe and expert already knows.

Okay, I checked and apparently the MMs were applied by hand to the dies until 1990. So the die that made that coin could very well have had that S where it is.

Too bad about all that black junk all over it.

Try some Verdi-Care on it. It kinda looks like it might have been a metal detector find and dug up.

Although it is now clear that it is not an E/V, the diagnostic discussion is always good to have in this forum.

Besides, it is clearly not a Classic US Coin (at least per the Community description).
