If someone were interested in picking up a mint set from each year of WWII does anyone happen to know what the approximate price of the sets should be?

Came across a 1942 the other day but it was pried in the 1500 and really just have no idea if thats the going rate or not

If my memory serves me correctly, (official) U.S. Mint Sets (P,D & S) did not begin until 1947.

What you saw was not a Mint Set but a date set of MS coins put together by a collector or dealer. Business Strike Mint Sets were not officially issued until 1947. Your quoted price seems to be incredibly high, I would expect MS65+ coins for that much money.

Proof sets were made in 1942. 1 nickel is in RedBook for $1300 and 2 nickel is $1400. Maybe that is what you came across. They don't list mint sets for 1942.

Thanks guys there was definitely more than just the nickels there. I think it was a date set as it had the penny, dime, nickel, and half dollar as well.

I was thinking the price did seem to be very high.

That was one of the ones I stumbled upon.

Oih82w8 is correct, mint sets were not produced until 1947. Proof sets were produced in 1942 but 1500 seems high to me unless the coins were slabbed and graded at least a 65. You could buy a 5 coin case that hold the halve through cent and put the set together yourself with gem uncirculated pieces for much cheaper unless your set on the proof coinage.

I would guess that you saw a Proof set. Be very selective when looking at raw material like that. Chances are very good that it's overpriced.
