My question revolves around the Presidential coins that included in the mints silver proof set and the Persidential $1 Coin proof set. Is there really any difference between the two sets? Admittedly they are both proof sets and should be of equal presence in the set.
I slao just got my 2012 presidential proof set in hand and I must admit that the quality of the coins that I see is low. I have scruff marks around the faces of all the presidents with the marks around Harrison the most bothersome. I definietly couldn't send my two sets in for grading because I don't believe that the would receive a grade of above a 68 at best. For proof coins they sure don't look like any better than a regular strike coin. I'd be interested to hear the comments of any other member who has received this set from the mint.

Haven't received my set yet, so can't comment on quality. Should be no difference in Presidential dollars between silver and clad proof sets. All coins are the same, except the dimes, quarters, and halves are 90% silver in the silver proof set.

As you suspect, they are the same thing. The stand-alone presidential proof set is offered for those who just collect presidential proofs, same for the separate Statehood, DC/Territorial, and America the Beautiful Quarter sets. Also, the presidential coins offered in the silver proof set are the same as the ones in the clad proof set. It is very annoying because to be complete for silver and clad half dollars, quarters, and dimes, you need both sets; however, you end up with duplicated dollars, nickels, and cents.

Agreed, make all the silver proof coins silver

I do like that idea, but I would settle for the mint to offer a "combined proof set" to avoid the duplicates.

At the very least they should do the combined, but they wont since they want the double sales

The Mint should make a clad prrof set and a silver set that only has the 90% silver coins in them. That way you could get all the coins silver and clad without gewtting the duplicates of the dollars, nickels and cents. They could sell them combined or separately like they do the silver 1/4's
