curious what your opinion or knowledge can lend... what date/mm would you consider to be the most common and easiest to find with any type of obverse doubling?

The most common major doubled die IMO would be the 1995P Lincoln DDO. It can be seen with the naked eye and has an estimated population of several hundred thousand. You can also purchase a very high grade MS67 example for $50-75.

I've found a few 1972's (all minor) over a 15 year period. I found three 2011 in one day.

Here's the coppercoins.com entry. You can find loads of them on auction sites all the time. There are lots of 50 in MS67RD and MS68RD (your choice of NGC or PCGS) available in ebay. Three are on ebay right now in MS69RD. It's known to exist in very late die state, so a lot were struck, and it was widely publicized (made the front page of USA Today), so huge numbers were saved. Many dealers have stocks of them.

There are other dates with a large number of different doubled dies (1972 and 2006 are a couple with many) if you're just anxious to look at a date that gives you a better chance of finding one. 2011 is a good year too, with several nice DDOs and two nice DDRs, and they're likely to be in nice condition.

I wonder why I've never found one of these 95's!

A few hundred thousand out of a mintage of 6.4 billion is still a small percentage, and a lot were found at the time, so there may not be that many left in circulation.

The others hit the nail on the head. For obverse doubled dies you are most likely to find in circulation the 1995 DDO takes the cake. 1972 doubled dies are still out there, but because they are now 40 years old, your chances of finding one are going to be somewhat slim these days.

Aside from the aforementioned dates, 1983 seems to yield a decent number of lesser DDOs, and the 1982p LDC DDO seems to be numerous out there. I have seen no less than a dozen reports of these being found over the last year alone.

That is pretty interesting to know about the 1995 DDO. I didn't know there were that many of them. I've never found one in circulation, yet.

I was looking at the close ups on the photos, on ebay, and I can't see the doubling. Is it really that easy to see the doubling?

Look at LIBERTY and "IN GOD WE TRUST"; it's not really noticeable on the date. It's one of the stronger doubled dies of the series, so if you can't see it on that one, you shouldn't bother searching for them.

Most photos on ebay are poor for seeing doubling. That's probably why they aren't selling. A great photo will sell a coin easily.
