Here are some low mintage dimes from my late father's collection. The scanner gives these coins no justice... they show every flaw.

I think a good picture SHOULD show every flaw and detail, since the flaws are there.

And I guess you will get more help if you post in the "Classic US coin grading"-section of the forum.

Thank you, I'm still learning. I would like to know how people put the big colorful pictures up there. Mine will only load up to 100kb.

Try to stop using the scanner and try a camera instead. It will look better.

The first has nice detail but there are nics on the field and the rim of the obverse. The 3rd one has serious pits on the reverse. That kills the coin if you bring it to market. The 4th is the closest to vf detailsyou have but my guess is improperly cleaned so again if your into market value it suffers somewhat.

Really nice barbers though
