Rings or no rings? Will coins rattle or move around in a non-ringed air-tite? If using the rings will it damage the coin?

Personally, I like the presentation better with the ring, but I believe they're sized to fit specific coins securely without it - no shake, rattle and roll. I was (and am) a fan of CoinEdge holders for edge-lettered coins like Bust Halves, but Air-Tites are the acknowledged choice for long-term storage. I'll be switching over to them with my Darkside stuff.

Chances are, you'll get an answer to your question straight from the horse's mouth. The founder and owner of Air-Tites is a member here, and I suspect the thread title will draw him in.

Thanks for the heads up. Also being scratch resistant would be a plus.

My entire collection is now proudly dispalyed in AirTites. Took about 2 years to get them all in the proper capsules. The real undertaking was all my challenge coins. I figured with all the different sizes and thickness of the challenge coins this would be impossible but I can say that I was able to find an AirTite holder to fit every single one of them even the big 2" versions.

I opted to use the ring style holder mainly because I just felt they offered better protection than the direct fit, especially if I drop on a hard surface.

I agree that the air-tites with rings are the way to go.

Then you can either order the presentation boxes(that fit nicely in safe deposit box) or the albums. The albums leave something to be desired imo.

now I like the direct fit. while not exactly designed like the CoinEdge holders, you still get a good view of the edge with these.

The Silver ML's do not rattle around in a 38mm but, I would buy the buy the larger size and use the rings. The ringless one's don't bother my coins... I just wish that the darn things (air tites) didn't scratch over time.

nds: Does this mean that you're back into "collecting" and not "selling" and that things are going better for you?

I have been meaning to get a bunch of AirTites to put my better coins in. I have some, and I love 'em.

Exactly what do you do with your collection that makes you worried about coins rattling around? Do you go our jogging with your collection? I'm sure air tights and all such coin holders are fantastic, but it sort of depends on what you do with the coins. If they just sit there in a vault, safe, safe deposit box, etc. the only thing to make them rattle is an Earth Quake. Nothing wrong with being protective but I sometimes think some people get carried away with everything. I've been collecting coins for well over 60 years and the ones in my Whitman Albums look the same as the day I put them there. A finished album gets wrapped in a freezer type plastic bag and put on a shelf in a vault. If I were to display my collection in the area I live I may as well varify my will is up to date.
Rest in Peace

Just tonight I placed eight of my coins in air-tites.

I like the rings personally.

There actually are 2 sites with the air tites name.

http://www.airtiteholders.com/

http://www.air-tites.com/

The company that manufactures the air tites uses the "airtiteholders" site name. At least this is what appears to be the case when you go to that site.

I believe the other site is simply a reseller of these holders (and most of the other types as well).

I have both but I prefer the direct fit the most. Just gives it a nice cleaner look overall and since I am a OCD when it comes to having things look just right I kind of go with this choice.

FYI, I know it was not intentional but just a warning to others. The airtiteholders.com link has the following virus "HTML/Mallar" associated with filename "airtiteholders[1].htm" my virus scan picked it up as soon as I linked to the site.
