Last night I had a little "me time," and as I sat by the fireplace I turned a new Presidential dollar over and over in my hands and finally decided what I really think of it.

I failed to come up with a clear answer one way or the other.

Here's what I decided.

I liked the color. Now if it will just stay that way!

I don't care for the obverse. To me it looks like one of those round pieces of chocolate wrapped in foil.

I think the reverse is great. Even so, I wish consideration had been given to changing the reverse with each new issue rather than using the same design 40 plus times.

I dislike the edge lettering. I can't read it with my regular glasses, or with my reading glasses. To make it out I have to take off my glasses and hold it at focus distance to one of my eyes. I would prefer the date and mintmark be on the obverse.

I feel the lettering under the portrait should be a little larger, to make it easier to read.

I realize that because of vending machines and the cost of metals, the Dollar must be the size it is. However, I would love to have seen it minted in the size of the Ike dollars.

Even though this seems more negative than positive, I am still enthusiastic about the Presidential dollars, and have been having a great time seeing people's reaction by giving them to family and spending them in stores.

Anybody else agree with my feelings?

I think my first impression about them when I first heard of them going to be making them still stands, it is another coin to collect but not one to enjoy looking at. The design is just plum ugly and I would have rather have Lady Liberty on the Obverse then these portraits that looks like any first grader could have drawn out

The wife gave me a roll of them last night, do not like them at all.
I hope the Jefferson will look a lot better as for the Washington I will just spend them just to see what people think.

I Pretty much agree with you Gary. I too would have much preferred the date and mm on the obverse or reverse. Since they have to continue to make the Sacs, the vending machine/transit issue is satisfied so I feel they could have made the pres coins a different size with no problems. Ike size might be a little too large though. Maybe half dollar size?

Wow, I haven't even received one yet and after reading every one's opinion, I'm not too upset either.

Bluntly put the new dollars are butt ugly. The Mint attempted to use a medallion approach to stimulate the use of a dollar with designs that have been shoved down the American people for years and years. We have had enough already!!!
I will say the reverse is a nice look but again I have seen the Statue of Liberty from every angle since I was born and its use is very boring and far from new. Lets face it our government NEEDS a major overhaul as they are stuck in a huge rut when it comes to culture, art and the opportunity to show the world what is REALLY the United States on our coinage. If this series actually reaches its desired end it will be a miracle.
