I liked the French un ultime franc so much, I bought one, but it got sent to me in a flip.

I need something to keep it in. It's thick anyway, and the warp makes it thicker. I don't have an Air-Tite that will work, but the half-dollar size is the biggest one I have.

Any ideas?

I wonder if a plexiglass made holder would work. I do not know if the chemicals are inert though.

I know that there was some form of original government packaging on at least some of these coins, but have no idea what it consisted of:

Maybe some one else on the forum will know.

The 2001 Last Franc is 33mm in diameter. While it's not a perfect solution because of the way this unique coin is warped, we use a 33mm airtight capsule to protect it from the air, dust, and scratches. The capsule isn't completely closed, but this solution allows the edge engraving to be seen, and is the best we could come up with.

I think you were lucky it got sent to you in a flip

If sent in what they call the Monnaie de Paris hard standard capsule it would have rotatated in the capsule all the way making the capsule opaque on both sides and scruffing the highest points of the coin on both sides. I saw one like that

Hi there Janknez

Try this link to see what they have got, they are situated in France and their page is in French, but you could use http://babelfish.altavista.com/ to do the translation they do whole pages too.

http://www.bourseducollectionneur.c..._30_219.html

They do a 26 mm and a 37 mm and that is not expensive, I think

Hope that helps you

These are standard flat capsules

The capsule I saw on the ultime franc was ultradeep to accomodate the wave but it was not suited to ship the franc resulting in damage to the capsule and the franc
So I think there must be a shipping flip and a storage deep capsule

Tyically of the Monnaie de Paris they had two last francs
One is the Semeuse the other the undulated Starck design

For transport reasons the original Starck was sold in a Blister

Very true, ageka. We've also seen many scratched coin/capsules because of the rotation inside a capsule too large for the coin. 33mm or maybe 33.5mm is what you are looking for in this case, janknez. While it will not fully close, it will protect and hold the coin solidly in place.

Patrice, is the air-tite capsule you are using a direct fit type? That is, not he kind with the foam? Or does it have the foam?

Thanks for your input. Simbad, Ageka, thanks to you too.

Yes, it's a direct fit, not the "ring" type with foam.
