This is my first "mongrel" set. Name "mongrel" actually thought up by OldDan long ago in connection with a different token.

Anyway the first link is a German beer token spelled BEIR and the second is a BEIR error on a 1958 Lincoln. As a set I can neither post it as an error nor exonumia....what should I do

Two suggestions: (1) Dual listings (one on cents and one on exonumia); or (2) Send them to me so I may investigate the matter more closely and give it deeper thought.

Joking aside, the combination "mongrel" set is intriguing! Sort of makes me wonder what other unusual combinations of numismatic items may be put together, e.g., Buffalo nickels and Buffalo, NY tokens.

That's a pretty nice token. Mine just has a wreath on the reverse. And the lettering on yours is more stylized.

Very cool Long9. This may just spark some more thinking for folks that may be close to "burn out". Like Fred said, Buffalo coins and Buffalo NY items/tokens. Interesting. Thanks for posting.

Aye! Anyone who likes this doing this would be using the Internet to prevent burn-out instead of accelerating it.

Thanks to everyone who responded. And Fred your not going to believe this but I just won a token on ebay for the Ho Chi Minh Signal Club--attributed to the 43d Signal Bn. Ho Chi Minh + 43d Signal BN

Guess what? I just figured out why I didn't think of this when I got the BEIR Lincoln last year and already had the BIER token. Because I did think of it. But the I's and E's are reversed on them.

That's okay. Now I can go look for a BIER Lincoln.
Rest in Peace

I couldn't find much in a quick Google on the 43rd Sig Bn except that it was in RVN. If it was a long lines battalion (it was a 1st Sig Bde bn which handled all theatre and strategic communications), it might have been at Cu Chi - hence a play on words with Ho Chi Minh's name. That's stretching it a bit.

Nice find, 009. I fear my own buying days won't recommence until later this year. Jeeps are expensive to fix.

They did modified support from Camp Holloway--Pleiku. There's got to be something about this where they're taunting Ho Chi Minh by naming a club after him. Unless they were doing that literally on the air-waves.

Sorry to hear about your Jeep. It's criminal the way they've been building cars for the last 20 years. You have to be an engineer now just to figure out how the hood opens.

Maybe the 43rd invited Charlie to use the slots during the daytime to keep him broke and tired enough so he wouldn't be able to fight at night.

Main problem with my Jeep is with the mechanics who have worked on it over the years. With the single exception of York Jeep in Prescott, AZ, most Jeep service shops I've visited didn't know what they were doing. They bungled its service by lubing the differentials with standard gear oil instead of the specified multi-viscosity synthetic gear oil. As a result, I had to replace most of the drive train (axles, diffies, bearings, seals, CV joints). Big bucks for cold steel. It's running almost like new now, but I've got lotsa war stories about incompetent Jeep mechanics from WA to NY...

One more reason for the name Just Empty Every Pocket.

Interesting info about the newest token aquisition. I will have to look through my non-fiction library that I have on the subject and see what I can some up with.

I have a strong suspicion that the reason, if it can be found at all, wouldn't be too far from what Fred said:

"Maybe the 43rd invited Charlie to use the slots during the daytime to keep him broke and tired enough so he wouldn't be able to fight at night."

It's too easy in the military for an inside joke to become a very local culture. We had a guy that was trying to decide whether to blow his last $10 on the roulette wheel in Monte Carlo: He in effect said "to the devil with it--Ten on Red." He didn't exactly say "to the devil with it, but that's as near as I can get to it in a family forum. But that became a cultural mime for us: "Ten on Red." Who today would ever be able to figure that out?
