As far as I know there are NO .999 circulating coins, There are however different silver content coins issued by different countries .
In Aus all silver coins issued before 1946 were Stirling silver after that (Before the inception of decimal coinage )they were minted in 50% silver.
The only exception is the round 1966 50 cent coin that was minted in 80% silver

You can buy silver test kits.

Or there are specialised silver forums that will probably know other methods, silver stackers might be worth trying.

There's a simple way to test silver coins, no test kit necessary :
http://www.coincommunity.com/forum/...ilver,tissue

I've used the tissue method and it's pretty accurate on high silver content but a bit less reliable on lower silver content coins.

All Australian Threepences,Sixpences,Shillings & Florin are Silver.
92.5 % up t0 1945
& 50% from 1946 to 1964

5 Shillings/One Crown 1937 & 1938 are 92.5% silver as well

For World coins, the best way to check if a coin is silver or no, is to look it up in Krause World Coins, or go to a dealer and kindly ask him to look it up for you.

Even a 'phone call can help. Just give the Country, denomination and date, and most probably, the dealer will be able to tell you straight off.

Ok I kinda thought that, I should kind of clarify what I meant was, how would I tell if it is silver, I can look up if it is meant to be but as I buy most my coins of ebay just wanted to make sure the coin I bought was in fact real and made of silver and not a fake

Depends hugely on date and grade. For a beat up florin with no numismatic value I would be looking at payong around $8 for pre 46 and $5 for post.

The 1939 is harder date, 92.5% silver but still fairly affordable for a decent example.
