I've got a little free time right now so I'm working on my photo skills & pulling out some coins I put back last year. I've got 3 of these 1904-O Morgans that all have the same look. I'm not sure if it's toning or scunge on the coins. I'm looking for grade, photo & "what's the scunge" opinions.

Not sure what caused the haze on both sides unless it was stored in an older 2 x 2 coin envelope for a number of years. Looks to be a nice coin, maybe MS-64

The cartwheels look promising.

Have you tried just a little acetone for a couple of seconds, no rubbing? It might just do the trick.

I bought a collection from an estate last year that had 2 full rolls of 1904-O Morgans. There were a few that had this haze on them so I set them aside thinking I'd try acetone when I had more time. Somehow they moved from my sale inventory into my personal collection & I forgot I had them. Long story short, I haven't tried acetone.....yet.

Looks like it may be somewhere around a MS-63 give or take. I don't know what causes the haze, maybe airborne contaminants. It is possible to remove it but that may reveal hidden imperfections.

MS63 might be good for a dip to remove the haze, I doubt acetone would do much, but I'd try that first, as a silver dip can make a coin worse real quick, without the hae this coin might make a MS64. A common date so maybe it's worth a try.
