Its been awhile since I've posted since I have been rather busy getting my affairs in order for a big move. This Sunday I'm moving to Sydney for 2 years to pursue a graduate degree! So once I get settled in and situated, I need to find a good coin store. Can anyone recommend a local shop? Also, what would be a good series to start collecting? Finally, are there any coin related advice/fun things that anyone can recommend? Thanks and see you all soon

Welcome! Sydney is fairly big. Do you know where you will be staying? There are a few shops in Sydney CBD and one at Padstow. I do not know of any others but I have not looked for any.

You lucky dog! Make us all proud at school. If this is your fist time down under you are in for a real treat. I spent some time in the Perth-Fremantle area and was treated like I was family nearly everywhere I went. By the end of your first week you will be grinning like a shot fox. And if you find yourself in Never Never, keep your eyes peeled for bunyip's. They can be very nasty creatures if you catch them in a bad mood.

and, before you cross the street/road/highway, LOOK RIGHT first. I have seen too many Seppo pedestrians get run over 'coz' they were looking the wrong way. Tell us which part of Sydney you'll be in: it's a beautiful city, with lots to see and to do.

Naughty boy Peter! I dare you to explain the cockney rhyming slang expression that seppo is abbreviated from... Damned if you do & damned if you do. :)

to Aus! What graduate degree are you doing? As far as what to collect you can go down the circulating decimal coinage, pre decimal or NCLT path. I think I would be right in saying most of us collect a bit from all three. Personally I prefer the predecimal coins but if you want something which you can set a goal in and achieve fairly easily the the decimal series are hard to look past. You will get almost every date from circulation except for those in mint sets only. Some coins such as the 2000 $1/10c mule and wavy 20c might be hard to find but everything else should be fine.

Well Enlil, the majority of the Coin Community Forum contributing to this topic would be Aussies. Do we "drive you crazy" too . I think it is always dangerous to generalize about a people Squire

Haha thanks for all the great responses. I'm going to Macquarie University for a masters in international relations and a masters in international trade and commerce law (wow its a mouth full). The Uni is in North Rhyde. Is anyone familiar with the area? I was there last year and loved it, though you all drive on the wrong side of the road hehe. Dont worry I'll remember to look in the right direction. I would hate to be run over by a roo. I think I may try my hand at some pre decimal coinage. I love the way they look and the coins are amazing. Plus silver :) I'm working on a year set right now for 1889 for US coins (really hard year), so maybe I'll expand it to include Aussie coins! One last thing whats a seppo? I've heard of the Bunyips or the myth I should say.

We have all sorts of colloquialisms down here and you will get used to them mate As for driving people crazy well..........we are real GOOD at that
