Does anyone have any insight as to what this may be above the eye on one of my Morgans?

Hard to tell for sure from the scan. Looks like PVC damage, does it feel sticky or oily?

I pulled it out of its flip and it doesn't feel oily or sticky. That doesn't mean at one time it wasn't. It is a recent purchase from a local dealer. I didn't notice it until I got home.

While I had it out of its flip, I took a better picture from a wider angle.

Research acetone usage on this forum, and apply that knowledge soon. Not because I feel there's a problem, but because "just in case." If acetone doesn't work, whatever that is, is probably what you're stuck with.

Thanks SsuperDdave. I remember reading somewhere on here about acetone treatment - pure acetone not nail polish remover. The other details I will have to research further.

@amida17. Hmmm. Never thought of that. Thanks.

If you can't get it off take it back to the dealer you bought it from and see if you can get a refund or at least trade it for something else. I'm certain he knew that spot was on the coin when he put it in its holder so he can't honestly say it wasn't there when you bought it. Hopefully the acetone will take it off and you'll have a coin you like.

Looks like PVC gunk to me.

As others have said, give acetone a try.

I have no doubt he knew the spot was there. I really like the coin but the spot is a distraction. I blame the lighting in the shop. I went back a few days ago and looked at a couple of other coins. Some of the ones I liked, I took over to the plate glass window to see what the looked like with natural light. There was a different. So now I am a little older and a little wiser.

I would prefer to keep the coin, but if it doesn't come off with acetone, I will take it back and see what he says.

I agree that it looks like it was "acid tested" at some point.

The Morgan just went into an acetone bath. We'll see what happens.
