Found this one today. Not sure exactly what the composition is, but I'm trying to dig up scales to get the weight. When I listen to LED ZEPPELIN...so do my neighbors... Roll hunting since '77 Dirt fishing since '72

You, my friend, should be jumping up and down. You just found a proof from a silver proof set! (Yes its silver)

You need to get it weighed. A true 40% silver half should weigh 11.50 grams, whereas a somehow altered copper nickel clad one should weigh 11.34 grams. Since there are not supposed to be any 40% silver 1971-s halves, you might have a super rarity if it is proven to be silver!

Am I wrong by saying that there were no silver Kennedy halves minted in 1971, even in proof sets?

That is a real find if it is. They stopped making the 40% silver halves in 1970.
Can you take a photo of this half next to a copper clad for color comparison?

If the coin is proven to be silver, it would be a transitional error, like finding a silver 1965 quarter.

Just looked at the records at Heritage; they have never auctioned off a 71s transitional, but they did auction a 71d in AU55 transitional for a little more than 6 grand. If that coin is silver, that's a monster!

Did you pull it from a Proof set? Was it from a dealer?

I think I can see the faint color of a copper band on the edge, but maybe its still a 40%er. I dont see much of a chance of it being a 90%er. I hope that is silver, ffd, nice find!

Not sure if it is plated...if so just plated on the edge? Dont think the DCAM would show if the whole coin were plated.

with amida17. Don't see how you could replicate the cameo appearance. Plated on the edge, now maybe. Needs to be weighed, and if it is close to the specs for a 40%, it needs to go to a TPG.
