I was just wondering if the 2009 U.S. quarters were worth saving, like the dimes and nickels of the same year, or if they even had unusually low mintages?

They're not easy to come by.... I rarely see them in circulation so I keep whatever I get. But there are a lot out there:

DC-P 83.6M
DC-D 88.8M
PR-P 53.2M
PR-D 86.0M
Guam-P 45.0M
Guam-D 42.6M
Am Samoa-P 42.6M
Am Samoa-D 39.6M
USVI-P 41.0M
USVI-D 42.0M
N. Mariana-P 35.2M
N. Mariana-D 37.6M

(Mintage #'s courtesy of the 2012 Red Book)

So there are many millions of them out there, but relative to the Statehood Quarters, that mintage is low. I don't think they're worth much more than face, especially circulated, but I say keep 'em anyway.

I finally finished by Statehood Quarters album with my latest acquisition of the Marianna, Guam, Virgin Islands and Samoa. Now my quest is moving forward toward acquiring the Silver and Clad Proof sets. I need just 5 more sets and I'll have the basis and reason to get a new Dansco album for this series.

Once I get those sets then I start maybe thinking about getting into its variants.

But I will agree about saving all the Guam, Samoa, USVI, and Mariana coins a body can lay their hands on. I believe that the reason that these coins were so lowly minted is that they were at the end of the series and the need for quarters (as well as other 2009 coins) was tanking.

Ok thanks. Guess I'll add Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, Guam, Samoa, and Mariana to my Statehood album.

Those are technically not Statehood Quarters or part of the series, for obvious reasons, but many albums/folders have spots for them just because they are very similar.

As others have said there are many millions of quarters, none with any low mintage. But some are harder to find.

IMO - All quarters from 1999 and up are collectible. By this I mean it is a interesting and easy to collect series, that will always have new people wanting to put a set of them together.

For me I only keep the best examples I can find. When I break open a roll the first thing I do is pull out only the top grade problem free quarters, the rest I dump at my bank.

AS for the 2009 quarters they are harder to find and the rolls do seem to sell better then the 1999 - 2008 quarters.

IMO - collectors should not be keeping circulated quarters as a possible investment.

Putting a high grade set of quarters from 1999 to date is a good challenge. The early P and D quarters can be very hard to find in MS 65 or higher.

I thimk GR58 has the right idea. Unless they are in great condition I do not see the point in keeping any of these. I have a running circulation set of all the issues just for fun and to have a specimen but they are too readily available to keep in anything less than MS.

I agree. Even though 40 million or so does not sound like a whole lot compared to 200 million or more for the State Quarters, they will always be available. I would bet that half of the totals of the 2009 quarters were saved in uncirculated rolls. But because they are so hard to get in change, I keep the few that I find anyway. I just can't break that "hard to find" mentality.

I have not been keeping the quarters, but I think I will start if I find nice specimens of the Territory and National Parks.

I know some State Quarters are rare, and a few have errors making them worth quite a nice penny but I am not sure which dates right off hand.

I think if you find them in BU, they are worth saving. Maybe saving a few if circulated, to keep in an album/folder/holder, is nice too.

Can you find them in BU doing coin roll searching? Just wondering if anyone here does quarters and what your results are.
