Hi all.
At first sight, I just thought this was damage.
It seems like there is more to it than that.

1949-S-Franklin-Half,-

Notice HALF, how LF appears shifted upward.
Quite a bit different that a double die.
Can anyone explain this?
Thanks!

Woah. I have no idea what it is.It sort of looks like dropped letters or doubling, but I dont see a way that could happen.

The shifted letters appear to be incused, is that correct? Also, between the bell clapper and top of the "D" appears to be an incused straight leg of the "d"? To me that's really odd. It will be interesting to see what everybody else thinks.

I have been asked to comment on this one...

Sorry, no clue here either. I can't imagine anything in the minting process that would look like that, but at the same time I can't think of any style of alteration that would create this effect either.

are they possible die alignment marks or struck through dropped letters ? Being underneath the actual strike makes them very curious.

It is indented, not raised.
Should this be sent out to someone?
I don't care if it is worth no premium at all, I just would like to know what happened.
