These are a great idea.

I know a dealer that uses these very same boxes to store 2x2's. Just add some dividers to the draw and your set to go.

Now security could be a problem. Need to go the out of sight, out of mind route I think.

Thats the problem with storing valuable coins at home these days, always the risk of some druggy stumbling across it.Apparently you can buy a motion activated alarm/camera that sends a message/picture to a smart phone, cheap way to safeguard goodies.

Edit..disregard,i just noticed it mentioned in the other security thread.

Cool idea, if only my collection was neat enough I would try that too.

I have a workshop tool trolley. Similar idea but bigger and on wheels.

Had plenty of room when I first got it but running out of space now!

A log time ago I looked into all those storage options.

At the end of it all I bought a Wormald fire-proof safe that stands about 75cm high and on it's own weighs 82kg. It has a key lock and combination lock. It's tough to move and very heavy to lift

The average burglar would not be able to get into it let alone cart it away.

If you have a collection like mine, I would recommend the investment.

A 24 gun Cannon brand gunsafe run 399 to 499. Weigh approximately 400 pounds empty.

The tool box is a great idea, but easy to break into.

@acloco gun safes are the ideal but here in OZ for reasons we will not go into, finding then in a decent size is a problem.

The biggest I've seen is a 10 gun. That one cost me $1200.

I wonder how you would go with a reinforced metal door and jam on say a closet. Would look normal, but hard to get into.

The discussion has turned to security now. Since I got monitored security and a dog - the burglaries have stopped. SO the toolbox was as much for convenience and neatness, rather than security.

@Karloning I'm not against the tool box, I'm even looking at getting one for my proof set etc.
Just as they are a perfect way of organizing the collection and ease of access, it does make it ease to pick up the entire collection as it were.
You've already taken the step necessary to cover the small issues with the tool box.

P.S. there is one thing better than a guard dog.....two guard dogs.

Three guard dogs?....maybe four....
When does diminishing returns cut in?

Ever thought of geese? They are very territorial and can be quite intimidating to intruders. [True]

Yeah, getting O/T but I had to visit a property out the back of Yass NSW to buy a car, drove up to the homestead and about a dozen Geese came running, half flying, and surrounded my car making one heck of a noise and then started pecking at it,scratches everywhere. The owner finally let his dog out of the house and he rounded them up and herded them away like sheep.Amazing scenario for a city boy like myself.

I like the novel storage solution! I use Eagle proof set albums myself, but neither my albums nor your tool box are going to stop thieves, but that wasn't the topic.

Step 1 is to create a storage system that works for you.
Step 2 is to create a security plan around that storage system. Feral Geese may be a good option.

the best security of all is to not tell anyone you have a collection but have security dogs anyway to stop scumbags even entering the front gate, works for me....dog food is cheaper than insurance companies crap policies
