Look what I found at work this week! I'm a cashier and come across some interesting coins here and there, but I've never found an Indian Head penny OR a Buffalo nickel!

Clearly, the nickel is in decent shape. But look at the penny! Anyone know how this happens? There are tiny holes all over it, and the penny feels extremely light. I also can not make out the date at all. I'm sure this is not worth much so I'm going to go at it with some copper cleaner. Anyone seen a sad penny like this before?

Nice finds. Maybe the cent was buried at one time and found by a metal detector?

If only the Indian cent could tell us its history. Probably run over a few times, probably been through a washer/dryer, cleaned in acid, etc.

Looks like the Indian spent a considerable amount of time underground.

Over the years, I've spent a good many older coins like this one, hoping that finding it would stimulate a new collector. It was receiving an old coin from my Dad in 1955 that prompted me to go to the library and therein discover books about numismatics.

ExoGuy, that's a great idea!

The copper cleaner did NOTHING. It is currently soaking in olive oil. I will probably never know the date, Coinstar, but I am really trying! I have never found such an old coin!

The IHC is over 100 years old and is still being used for it's original purpose! Besides buildings, how many other 100 year old man-made items are used for their original purpose?
