I just got my Canadian nickel collection today in the mail. It consists of the dates 1937-2005. The tombac coinage is interesting. Also I beleive there were some steel 5 cent pieces during the war period. :-)

I put most of my Canadian nickel collection together many years ago. I haven't worked on it for probably 20 years now. Guess I need to get going and up-date it to the present.

You are correct. The 1944 and 1945 Five Cent coins were predominately steel with a thin plating of nickel and a thinner plating of chromium.

Canadian nickels were also plated steel from 1951-1954, copper and nickel from1982-1999 and back to plated steel in 2000.

I think it's time to start updating! I'll have to check ebay for the 2006 canadian nickels. :)
