Here's another Canadian-related section that will also interest British Commonwealth collectors. It is about the very scarce 1d. token issued in 1815 by Sir Isaac Coffin for the Magdalen Islands, which was part of Newfoundland, but is now part of Quebec.I have got one of these coins, which I found by chance in a bulk lot of coins at work.
(Yes,I work part-time for a coin dealer here in Wellington,New Zealand.)

Yes you have an extremetly rare token. IT is amazing to me how a coin like this from Lower Canada- Magdalen Islands- issued in 1815 can find its way all the way down to New Zeland. It is easy to speculate-- I am betting the coin was brought down by fisherman a long time ago or whalers- Well, any guess will do! habiru001

Habiru001,I was very lucky to get it,plus I also knew that it was a very scarce piece. At the time it was issued (1815),the Magdalen Islands were part of Newfoundland. They were transferred to Lower Canada (Quebec) in 1825.The most common pre-Confederation coins that we see over here in New Zealand are the 1852 St George Pieces from Upper Canada. It took me years to finally pick up a pair of 1857's.

If you haven't got a Charlton catalogue,then here's a link; https://www.charltonpress.com/Numismatics2.asp .

Yes,they publish a catalogue on Canadian traders' tokens,& a Canadian specialised banknote catalogue, which lists all the Canadian trading bank notes.

They've listed it in the 19th century Krause, as well, under it's own heading: KM# Tn1 for Magdalen Island. They haven't listed any of the other private tokens except the bouquet sous and the bank tokens.
