I think it's crying. Sorry I can't be more help, new to world coins. Would be interesting to find out if this is stone some sort of error or variety (still unsure of the difference)
Do you have a normal half to compare it to?

Looks like a bit of a metal flaw or some foreign matter was in the planchet when struck & has come away since.

It's all good mate to the other side Yeah I have others and that's why I've kept him as it has funny looking raised bits behind the emu's head that makes it look like a double bar but this is 1983 and I think double bars are 66,79 & 80 but there could be more. Yeah no idea what to make of it apple

Very intriguing, I wonder if anyone else has seen this then. I love finding little oddities like this. I found a US State Quarter that appears to have a grease filled due error on the first 'T' in trust but the research I did on that only saw that error on a different coin from that series. I should post it here to get a better opinion.

Actually I have a $1 coin that has patches peeled off some area & deposited in other areas,it was referred to as delamination by the seller.

How do you guys get such a good image ? What sort of scanner you use to get such a high resolution ? I'm looking to get one, maybe a multi function with printer?

sorry mate, can't help you with scanners as my pic's are taken with an old fujifilm finepix s5800 on super macro under a fluro without a stand or anything so pretty standard setup and that's why my pic's are always of such high quality But honestly I find coins really hard to capture a good image as some reflect light back into the camera Have a look at the taking pic's posts and you might get some good ideas about lighting and simple little things like cutting the top and bottom out of a milk bottle (or what ever takes your fancy) as a stand to take pic's thanks for the help team 'cause I know it's hard to make comment on a pic so I'll have to get a few people to have a look next time I'm near a dealer to see what others think and hopefully I might have a 1983 double bar
